Lokatoo GPS navigation – now featuring Yellow Pages listings and TM WiFi sites

While the primary function of any GPS navigation system is to get you where you want to go, companies that build such devices are always looking to put more into them to make them more complete – and distinguishable – in the eyes of buyers. Many are novelties, like games or music playback capability, but some extra features can be quite useful.
Take finding the right service or business, easy and without fuss. Like having a directory of company or business listings as found in the Yellow Pages, easily searchable by keying in the company name or telephone number.
Local company Lokatoo, which proudly states that it’s the first Malaysian GPS navigation product using its own navigation software engine, has done just that, adding in a digitalised Yellow Pages listing containing more than 3,500 categories of businesses, and the feature can be found in all its GPS navigators, external and embedded.
Besides being able to check for company details like name, address, phone number, fax number and website address (URL) by keying either the company name or the telephone number, one can also search by categories to look for a specific business listing, sortable by names or distance nearest to your location, which the unit will then route you to once specified.
The Perodua Alza Advanced Version, which was introduced yesterday, features an in-built Lokatoo device equipped as such, and it’s not just to be found on Peroduas, but in the Lokatoo navigators in selected Isuzu and Proton models as well.
Another interesting feature of the map is that it also indicates WiFi sites from TM, searchable as a point of interest (POI) or, if you happen to be near a coverage site, as a TM WiFi site indicator on the screen.
With all Lokatoo GPS units using a map system of Malaysia powered by Telekom Malaysia’s navigational data, it’s no surprise to find the new additions being incorporated into the company’s devices. The company is especially proud of the fact that daily updating of map data is carried out both Lokatoo and TM staff, with users getting monthly updates through the company’s website. The company adds that it’s the only navigation product that provides a monthly release of map updates in Malaysia.

Adopting the navigation map powered by TM also offers unique advantages of being able to search a location in Lokatoo via telephone numbers, of which close to 30,000 popular commercial telephone numbers are available in the database, with more being added over time. The telephone number search allows users to opt for searching by telephone number over the traditional way of searching by road or Point of Interest (POI) names.
