The Terry Fox Run KL 2008 invites everyone and anyone to run, walk, skate or cycle to support cancer research at the Run.
The Run is a non-competitive event; a social occasion where people of all ages come together as individuals, families and groups to raise money to be used for cancer awareness and research. Since it began in 1983, the Terry Fox Run has become the largest, single day, fund-raising event of its kind, with participants around the world taking part to contribute to the cause, along with their colleagues, family and friends.
In Malaysia, the Terry Fox Run KL has attracted thousands of Malaysians from all walks of life; it is one of the largest Runs in the world, with over 9,000 runners in 2007. The KL Run is an inspiring and remarkable example of support and solidarity from Malaysians who have made a personal commitment to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
The Run is named after Terry Fox, a Canadian who was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 18. As a result, his right leg was amputated above the knee. Whilst in hospital, Terry was moved by the suffering of cancer patients, especially children afflicted by this deadliest of diseases. He was so moved that he resolved to run across Canada, a distance of 8,500 kilometers, to raise money for cancer research in what was to become the “Marathon of Hope”.

You never know the trauma of cancer until you go to the cancer ward. I have been there helping patients while I was nurse at Kenyatta National Hospital in Kenya. Its so moving when you see human beings suffering like that. This is an event not to missed. An event to give hope to people. People who only expect miracles to happen. If you can do something to help make someone's life better why not get involved. How long shall we play a passive role? Its a call for all people residing in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya to come and participate. Its a call for all Malaysian young and old to act in support. If you cannot run, I guess you can be generous enough to contribute something for a good course at the Terry Fox Foundation. Support this foundation, be a miracle to someone today. Sponsor T-shirts and the like to willing people who would like to participate in the run. Tomorrow is the last day at 1Utama to buy t-shirts. They open at 10am and close at 8pm. Will you be there?
